I've been using Memeo backup for nearly four years. Several weeks ago I replaced Windows 7 on my computer first with Windows 8 and then Windows 8.1. Memeo works fine in Windows 8.1. I've also started using File History and it seems to be doing an excellent job of completely backing up my files. There are some differences with numbers of files and folders copied and the contents of a given folder between programs, but these are not significant. So, should I continue using Memeo and use File History alone or should I continue to utilize both backup solutions? If I uninstall Memeo and delete its backup folder I will gain 340 MB.

Thanks for the response. Oh, in that case, dispose of it.

As you said yourself, you don't actually need it since File History will do an equally good job. Next time you go to File History though, create a System Image as well. You'll see the link bottom left in the same menu. A system image is an exact copy of Windows as it was installed on the day you created it.

In the event that the machine crashes, gets infected by a virus and won't start anymore or some other catastrophe and all other troubleshooting steps fail, you can restore Windows to the same state it was in when you created the image. It's only a two step process, but if you get stuck, see instructions here.

I've done weekly system images in Windows 7 and did my first one last Friday in Windows 8.1. I was surprised about how long it took in Windows 8.1. It used to take about 45 minutes in Windows 7 to do a system image. It took over eight hours to do a system image in Windows 8.1 at USB 3 speeds. I hope things speed up in subsequent system images. I miss the ability to schedule events like system image.

Taking easy scheduling out was a bad move for Microsoft. Maybe the next update. Something not right there I think. It only took me about 15 minutes the first time I created one. Maybe it'll be a good idea to run System File Checker to check for corrupted system files which the tool will try to replace. To do that, right click the Start button and go to 'Command Prompt (Admin)'.

Then type: sfc /scannow and hit Enter. It should only take about ten minutes provided no corrupt files are found. As regards scheduling a task, you can still perform that function as far as I'm aware. Hit the Start button and then just start typing 'Task Scheduler' (without quotes). It should appear in the list on the right before you even finish typing 'Task'. From there, click 'Create Task'.
